The AIS Group can convert you. Some call it data migration, others call it data conversion. Call it what you will — we'll stick with data conversion. Think of your conversion options as a menu. There are some items that come in a bundle (like the #3 combo at your favorite fast-food joint) and some come a la carte (like that extra helping of mashed potatoes or coleslaw).
Master records are pieces of information that don't change frequently. The most common examples include general ledger accounts, customer records, vendor records, and inventory records. Transactional records, as you might suspect, include journal entries, invoices, orders, and payroll entries. In order to convert transactional records, the system must already contain the related master record data – hence the reference to the #3 combo meal. The a la carte portion relates to the level of transactional detail and, correspondingly, the length of time in history.
The degree of difficulty on a conversion depends on many factors. Are you renumbering the chart of accounts? Will you renumber master records? Do you need to "clean" the data, such as standardizing abbreviations or correcting bad addresses? Is the source data in text files, database tables, or crammed into a shoe box? Regardless of your answers, we'll get the job done.
